Michaela French – Artist
Michaela French is an artist, designer and researcher working with light and immersive media. Her creative practice investigates the interaction between light and matter, visual perception, embodied experience, and immersion through large scale immersive projection design, light-based art works and digital imaging. Michaela uses light as the primary medium in her work and incorporates a broad range of traditional and digital production techniques to create innovative artworks, installations and projection spaces for planetaria, live performance, contemporary dance, museums and gallery exhibition.
Michaela is a visiting lecturer and PhD candidate in Information Experience Design at the Royal College of Art. Her practice-based research adopts an ecological approach to visual perception. Michaela uses artistic research methods to observe and record changes in daylight over extended periods of time to investigate and elucidate the complex relationships implicit in the human experience of light and its impact on our understanding of the cosmos.
Michaela has extensive experience designing collaborative artworks and facilitating interdisciplinary projects and currently leads the RCA Fulldome Research Group in collaboration with the astronomers at the Peter Harrison Planetarium at Royal Museums Greenwich.
