Andrew Pontzen – Cosmologist
Andrew Pontzen is a cosmologist at UCL, and together with Michaela French and Helga Schmidt conceived If A Tree Falls. His research focuses on galaxies and the way they are arranged through space. One of the major goals is to learn more about dark matter – stuff that we are pretty sure is out there in space but we haven’t been able to see directly.
At its heart cosmology (and science) is a creative process, asking deeply human questions about our origins. But as scientists we can sometimes get so caught up in the day-to-day grind of data processing and modelling that this underlying humanity gets forgotten. Andrew’s goal with the project is to reconnect to the personal questions at the core of our work, and to open up discussions that are all too easily overlooked.
